Counselling Approach

I work collaboratively with you, listening to whatever you want to bring to the session. Person-centred therapy is a talking therapy developed by Carl Rogers in the 1950's which places you the client at the centre of the therapy.
Everyone's journey and struggles are unique. Counselling will help you to focus on your inner world, thoughts and feelings without judgement or criticism. I will listen and be guided by you, reflecting your thoughts so that you can hear them more clearly.
Grief and pain can be stored in the body. Tuning into the sensations within your body can help you to understand your pain and feelings more deeply. When energy or pain becomes stuck in the throat area around the neck, for example, it can become harder to verbalise your feelings.
Have you noticed that you find it hard to talk to others about how you feel?
Do you feel vulnerable and find it hard to express yourself?
Talking to a counsellor can help you find your voice where you will be heard and free to express your feelings that have become stuck.
When you feel stressed or anxious, it can be difficult to hear your thoughts and make sense of things. I will support you in hearing your thoughts; enabling you to understand your feelings more deeply.
What happens in a session?
I offer face-to-face sessions from the beautiful rooms in Tur Langton.
This is a beautiful setting, with confidential rooms for us to work together and begin exploring your feelings. I also work from my home office in Rutland where we can connect online or by telephone if you prefer.
This is your space to talk and feel heard, seen and understood, and where you can begin to find clarity for what is going on in your life.

If you would like to book face-to-face sessions please contact me by email or phone to book a session.
I offer day and evening appointments. If you would like to work with me online I will send you a link via email so that you can easily connect with me in the therapeutic space.
I appreciate that counselling can be daunting so the first session will be a chance for you to identify and address areas that you need support with. All sessions are confidential and will last for fifty minutes.
We can discuss your goals through an assessment session. This will help me to understand what you need from counselling. In subsequent sessions, you will be free to bring whatever is troubling you and I will listen with empathy.
What areas do I specialise in?
I specialise in working with a range of issues including grief and relationship challenges, anxiety and depression. I work with all adults 18+ years. It is important to me that you feel comfortable with my approach, so I offer a free 20-minute session and encourage you to ask questions about how I work.
